The many geyser fields of Yellowstone National Park are home to a wide variety of thermophilic microbes including algae, bacteria, slime molds and others. They can form thick living mats in the hot water. Many of the microbes have different temperature tolerances which allows them to occupy a variety of niches. These heat-loving microbes create an amazing array of patterns and colors suggesting abstract art as can be seen in these digital images. All six images are available on note cards in our shopping cart.
